I'm a product designer with over 20 years of experience. I gravitate toward complex problems that require systems thinking, clear definitions, and thoughtful collaboration. I don't design in a vacuum; I need to see the whole system before I start solving. My favorite work happens early, when there's still ambiguity to shape. Give me a whiteboard and a willing product partner and I'm in.
My process is grounded in problem definition, collaborative ideation, and working through real constraints. Mockups have their place, but they're not where you start. I care about the clarity of the work, the honesty of the process, and the quality of the team around it.
I got my start in photography, learned HTML and CSS when the web was still wild, and was doing UX before it had a name. I spent a few years in ad agencies sharpening my design instincts on high-profile projects for brands like Arrow Electronics, Yogi Tea, and Annie's Naturals, before shifting back to the web once the dust settled post-2007. I'm also an early adopter of AI tools, having tested the limits of everything from ChatGPT to Midjourney, which gives me realistic perspective on what they can and can't do for product work.
I'm interested in lead and principal roles with real influence, the kind where design helps shape strategy, not just decorate it. I work best with experienced peers, strong partners in product and engineering, and a team that knows how to push each other toward better outcomes.

I live in Denver with two rescue dogs, Hooligan and Stanley, who are family. I was born and raised in northeast Ohio (bound by blood to Cleveland sports, for better or worse), but I've been in Colorado long enough to call it home. I'm a cyclist, a former marathon runner, and a lifelong drummer trying to figure out what playing looks like now that tinnitus is part of the deal. I like tools and hands-on work; I've restored antique furniture, rebuilt a 1970s Hercules bike down to the hub, and recently started taking woodworking classes again. I have a bunch of tattoos and plan on getting more. I pick artists whose style I trust, sometimes with a plan, sometimes just to see what they'll make. Shout outs to Phill, Ray Lyn, Cori, KCO, Motz, Tori, and Rachel.
